Top 4 Pieces of Homebrew Equipment

By January 28, 2016Blog

It used to be easy to write home brewing off as a fad, but there are just too many people doing it, and loving it, to say that now. Are you sick of hearing your friends talk about their wonderful beers without being part of the conversation? Then there’s no time like the present to get started!

Here are the top four pieces of homebrew equipment you will definitely need to get off and brewing.

Equipment Needed to Start Brewing at Home

Whether this is your first batch of beer at home, or you have been sampling your own concoctions for quite some time, some items just make the process a whole lot easier. Here are a few things home brewers should never try to live without:

Separate buckets for fermenting and bottling: Many brewing kids come with a large, six-gallon bucket for brewing your beer, and that’s great! But the process of making a good homebrew actually requires TWO large buckets, one for fermenting and one for bottling.

A top-notch airlock: There are lots of instructions online to make your own airlock or fermentation lock, but really, they’re only a few dollars for a package of three. If your DIY contraption fails, you’re out everything you spent on supplies for an entire batch of beer.

Bottlebrush: This brush is not for babies, though it does look like the one that’s used to clean baby bottles. In fact, if a long-handled bottle brush in the baby aisle of your local drugstore is cheaper than the one at your local home brew supply store, you can feel free to scrimp. Spend the savings on the 3-pack of airlocks!

Sanitizer: OK, so this is more of a “supply” than equipment, but it’s arguably the most important item on the list. Contamination is the enemy of making beer at home! A good sanitizer will save you a lot of time, money and frustration.

Nice to Have When Making Beer at Home
